The past couple of months I had a cool opportunity to help out at the Farm.
I had no problems sleeping four nights in a row after a consecutive three-day run there.
It was a lot of fun meeting so many people and their dogs.
I enjoyed listening to the varied topics of discussion as everyone shared stories about their dogs and dog experiences. Each conversation at some point came around to issues people were currently experiencing or have experienced with their dogs, the subsequent training methods and the success or failure of said methods.
I broke down my overall take-away from the conversations during the two-month period into one of two basic categories of dog training methodology:
Scrubbing Bubbles Dog Training or Comet Cleanser Dog Training.
Prior to the “self-cleaning” method Scrubbing Bubbles prophesied with the use of this product there was the steadfast cleaning combo of Comet Cleanser and elbow grease.
Comet is not self-cleaning. Not even a little.
The idea a cleanser could clean an item with no effort on the part of the user was pretty sexy marketing-think in the late 60s and still is today.
Which approach has a higher level of success?
Below are product descriptions of both cleansers taken from their respective websites:
“Make Cleaning Easy With Scrubbing Bubbles® – IT’S CLEANING REINVENTED! – Scrubby (the talking scrubbing bubble and obvious alpha bubble of the bubble pack) takes the worries out of bathroom cleaning with his easy-to-use products. Messes are stresses, so get rid of ‘em!” Scrubby proclaims – and you have got to give some attention to a bubble that speaks. Scrubby’s message is straight out of the book of Conventional Wisdom 2019 where you deserve “it” – whatever “it” is – if you want “it.”
Sexy.
“Comet® Bleach Powder attacks your tough cleaning problems in kitchens, bathrooms and throughout your house (sic). This all-purpose cleanser cleans and deodorizes porcelain, stainless steel, fiberglass, Corian, solid surfaces, natural marble, and ceramic tile—all without leaving a scratch.” Fairly straightforward and no talking bubble promises to relieve your mess stress.
How does Proctor & Gamble remain relevant with Comet Cleanser? It has a reputation as a product that works – with effort and time on the part of the user.
Not sexy.

Oh my love you’re like a precious stone – Part of earth where heaven has rained on.
Makes no difference where you are – Day or nighttime you’re like a shinin’ star.
And how could I shine without you – When it’s about you that I am?” -Seals & Croft
Diamonds require careful craftsmanship before they shine. Boo used to attack the hose – now she happily anticipates watering as a fun time to cool off and play.
Bring this thought process around to dog training. Unless you know something I’ve missed, toilet bowls don’t require love and daily care to survive.
Dogs do –they need your effort in every aspect of their lives each and every day.
Regardless of the monetary resources you dispense on a particular training method or product, if you do not add your own effort and time to the product equation you will meet with zero to marginal success in attaining the desired end result.
Scrubbing Bubbles or Comet Cleanser Dog Training – the level of success depends entirely upon the effort of the human.
Choosing the Comet Cleanser Dog Training Method means rolling up your sleeves and scrubbing hard with care, patience and love.
The shiny, sparkling surface you will ultimately arrive at as a result of your hard work will give you a finish you can be proud of.
